Stone Crab Season!
Florida is not known for having four distinct seasons, unless of course you count “Hurricane Season,” or “High Season” or perhaps “Love Bug Season.” But one season we do have, and one that we all love, is stone crab season.
Food lovers cannot get enough of the Florida Stone Crab; I have been enjoying them my whole life! The stone crab season runs from October 15 to May 15 each year along the Gulf Coast from Mexico to Florida.
Seafood restaurants such as Randy’s Fish Market in North Naples, Rode’s in Bonita Springs and Swan River Seafood south of Pine Ridge Road on US 41 in Naples, sell stone crabs all season long and prepare them fresh in their restaurants for an appetizer or main course. They are served cold along with a nice mustard dipping sauce. Yum!
If you are in Naples in October you should plan to attend the Stone Crab Festival. In Naples, the Stone Crab Festival is an action-packed weekend taking place at various locations on the historic Old Naples Waterfront, including Tin City, Bayfront, and Port-O-Call Marina. Plenty of fresh, locally-harvested stone crab claws, fish and shellfish, live music, events, art, vendors and many fun activities for the entire family!
This year’s festival is taking place on October 25-27, 2013. It runs from Friday afternoon and evening through Saturday and Sunday from 10am to 5pm. Admission is free! For more information, call (239) 594-2978.
